REHERSAL TIME: ON THE DAY OF THE 20TH AT WRENN SCHOOL,

The full list of term dates for 2008/2009 has now been published on the diary on the website. Registration takes place on the 13th September, with activities starting on the 20th.

Attached is the letter detailing the fees for 2008/2009 too.

End of Term - and goodbye Miss P!

Hot on the heels of spending Friday in Birmingham with the Festival Band, came our last Saturday of term. The workshops in the morning seemed to be well received, with everyone getting the chance to try something a bit different, be it making animal masks, learning to face paint or do some acting, dance, pop or drumming.

The evening then saw the climax of a series of 4 concerts this term. Everyone was in party mood as we celebrated everything that the centre has achieved over the last year, but also as we said goodbye to Miss Paterson, who is leaving Wellingborough after 10 years to take up the centre head post at Nene Valley Centre in Oundle. The finale was the traditional ‘Hootenanny’, but this year to the accompaniment of square-dancing in the isles.

We have some pictures to put up at some point over the summer, so look out for the announcements here.

In the mean time, that’s it for this year. See you all in September and good luck Miss P!

Wellingborough is ‘Highly Commended’ at NFMFY

We’re slowly recovering from a fantastic day on Friday at Symphony Hall, where the Wellingborough Festival Band played ‘Mazama‘ and ‘Lord of the Dance’. ‘Mazama’ is inspired by a tribe of Native American indians who lived on the side of Mount Mazama and where wiped out when the volcano erupted.

They played really well, presenting a very enthusiastic and enjoyable performance, which earned them a ‘Highly Commended’ award. We have a video of the performance and plan to get it up on the web over this summer, so watch this space!

Earlier in the week, the Three Brass Farthings also played in the finals and they too, were awarded ‘Highly Commended’. Well done you three!

Apparently the Northamponshire groups who played also did very well, with many receiving ‘Outstanding’, including the Northamptonshire Youth Concert Band. I stayed for a bit and got to hear them play too. It was a very mature and sensitive performance. There is just so much music talent around the county.

Recorder Success!

On Wednesday 21st May 2008, twenty of the Centre’s recorder players took the Northampton Music Festival by storm. Playing Daisy Bell and Skye Boat Song they won the Year 8 and Under Recorder Ensemble Class and also received the Anglia Building Society Trophy for best recorder ensemble in classes aged year 8 and upwards.

Comments on adjudication from adjudicator Sally Adams were that “the the group had a good sense of balance, secure intonation and their enjoyment of the music shone through”. She also commented on our star solo performer Patrick on what was “an evocative and atmospheric start he gave us to the Skye Boat Song.”

Well done to all who took part. you were absolute stars!

This programme will be performed again on Saturday 28th June at All Saints Church, Wellingborough.
